Treatment must be started depending on the primary cause. In mild forms – without impairment of general condition – the cat should not receive any food for 24 - 48 hours. Fluid in the form of water should be offered in small amounts. This „intestinal rest“ is necessary to reduce undigested and not absorbed nutrients and to allow the mucosa of the intestine to recover. The subsequent dietetic treatment serves slowly adaptation getting used to firm feed and mostly consists of offering small portions spread out across the day. Longer fasting is not recommended, since it has a detrimental effect on the intestinal flora and the intestinal mucosa.
INTEGRA PROTECT Intestinal is particularly suitable for appropriate nutrition. It provides highly digestible animal proteins as well as well tolerated starch sources (carbohydrates). A moderate fat content facilitates quick emptying of the stomach. To ensure good digestibility of the dietetic feed, the content of dietary fiber (crude fiber) was reduced as far as possible. The increased content of electrolytes, especially sodium and potassium, is used to compensate the losses from diarrhea. All essential nutrients for regeneration of the intestine are provided, supporting restoration of the intestinal flora.
If the cat is not only suffering from diarrhea, but also from struvite or calcium oxalate stones, a suitable diet used to be hard to find. NTEGRA PROTECT Intestinal now the appropriate solution. With a specifically balanced content of minerals, as well as an appropriate supply of magnesium and phosphorus, it leads to an urine with the ideal pH-value between 6,5 - 6,8. These pH-values prevent the formation of struvite or calcium oxalate stones.
