Struvite stones are uroliths or bladder stones consisting of phosphorus, magnesium and ammonium and can come about as a result of a cat's genetic predisposition. As the formation of struvite uroliths is aided by an excess of magnesium in the urine, the formulation of INTEGRA® PROTECT Struvite (low magnesium) Special Dietary Food aims at countering the re-occurrence of struvite stone formations by a corresponding reduction of the magnesium content and the addition of urinary acidifiers (pH-value in cats' urine 6.5). Thus the prophylactic properties of this dietary food are of particular significance. In addition its good acceptance and easy digestibility are to be emphasised. In order to ensure an optimum supply of nutrition, you should, if possible, offer your cat the daily food ration spread over 3 different meals. Furthermore, you should also ensure that your cat has a permanent supply of fresh drinking water of which it makes frequent use because the frequent passing of urine helps to "wash out" the urinary tract.
